3000 KES buys you 12 GB data, unlimited SMS and 500 minutes for an month. That's 100 KES a day for a daily average usage of 410 MB, unlimited SMS in Kenya and 17 minutes calling. Safaricom promises you incentives from business partners like Shell and Eat Out. The "Bill Manager" promises to take the hassle out of paying bills and should remember till numbers.
The "Plus" means that the plan will auto-renew, but unused balances expire at the end of the month.
Before you can upgrade to "Plus" for this plan, you need to make a deposit of 3000 KES. Which means that you are actually prepaying 2 months when you get started. The unlimited amount of SMS is subject to the Safaricom "Fair Use" policy, which we haven't found explained. However, we expect your thumbs to cramp up before they kick you of the plan...
For 2999 KES, Telkom's monthly Freedom Monthly 36GB gives you 30 GB data, 50 MB WhatsApp per day and 1800 minutes on-net calling. Maybe better in data but definitely weaker for calling. Safaricom's own Flex Monthly 2499 gives you 10 GB or 10500 SMS or 1166 minutes in Flex for a month. Faiba NDOVU 2GB / Day is top of the bill at this level with 60 GB plus 500 SMS and 350 minutes per month for a net 2500 KES. Check that you can connect and that your phone is compatible with their network.
Our review conclusions: Very good value for money in mixed bundles. Only Faiba does better.
